" I am passionate about promoting a sustainable, equitable, and inclusive environmental experience for all because of the exclusive history of environmentalism that has previously erased people like me from the narrative. However, I know that the environment belongs to everyone and everyone deserves to know how their environment is influencing them and vice versa. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: EcoReps
EcoReps is a volunteer-based, peer-to-peer education program focused on raising awareness of and building leadership skills for environmental sustainability issues.
Each semester, student volunteers go through training sessions to learn how to advocate for campus sustainability initiatives. Then, we organize one learning experience, one advocacy experience, and one volunteer experience for them each month so that they can gain a better understanding of global issues and how they relate to their daily lives. Students have engaged with sustainability issues through informational tabling, a lake clean up, a campus greenhouse tour, multiple guest speakers, and movie screenings.
Our goal for this semester was to get 25 EcoReps trained and get at least 40% attendance at each event.
