" Through observing the food insecurities in Chicago, and hearing stories from West End community members and family members. I recognized the need for organically grown foods in low-income areas that are predominantly food deserts. Furthermore, the need to educate community members on policies that create the generational wealth gap and the food insecurities in their hometowns. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Spelman Soulful garden

Spelman's soulful food garden project strives to obtain the United Nations Zero Hunger sustainable goal. This project has addressed how food insecurity is displayed in the West End community, and how various policies have impacted the community members ability to access proper resources. We will host two events throughout the first semester and two events during the second semester. At the end of each semester, we plan to serve at least 100 people per event.
