" I am excited to have the support of MCN and other Millennium Fellows in working on my campaign at ASU. With this help, I am hopeful I can truly create institutional change to support global livelihoods and ethical consumption and production at my university. Achieving this will support workers around the world with ethical production practices, decrease waste, provide access to education to those currently without that privilege, fight sex trafficking, and support a number of other forms of positive social impact by providing consumers ethical products that facilitate helping others through everyday purchases. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Ethical Procurement Campaign at Arizona State University
The Ethical Procurement Campaign at ASU is an initiative to develop and build support for a comprehensive ethical procurement policy to govern all sourcing that occurs for products on campus. This means expanding current policies that are inclusive of things such as Fair Trade products to affect every product on campus in some way--whether that means everything must be either vegan, zero waste, from a B-Corps, Fair Trade, supportive of global health initiatives, from minority-owned business, etc.
The work done with the Campaign for the duration of the Millennium Fellowship was primarily in the realm of establishing a foundation for education and outreach and partnerships to be created in the future. Through the development of a framework of what the guidelines for this Campaign could be and through meeting with ASU faculty working on similar procurement initiatives, the Campaign is ready to begin no later than Fall 2020 when I return from studying abroad.
