Millennium Fellowship Project: The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health including HIV & AIDS (SCORA)
The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health including HIV & AIDS (SCORA) is a gathering of passionate individuals who are committed to promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights and are arduous about creating positive changes in their local communities. SCORA was formed in 1992. It is one out of nine standing committees in NIMSA (Nigerian Medical Students Association) with a mission to provide our members with the tools necessary for advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights within their respective communities in a culturally respected fashion. Our focus areas are: comprehensive sexuality education, maternal health and access to safe abortion, sexuality and gender identity, gender-based Violence, and HIV and other STIs.
During the semester we plan to organize/participate in outreaches, online and offline awareness programmes to members of the campus and community. Based on the trending health issues and the SCORA yearly calendar/schedule, we cover about 9 topics per year and 5 have been addressed; which leaves about 4 events left reaching at least 200 people each in 3-4 centres on our University campus.
