that being a MF will help me to engage with
people with different ideas. This mutual sharing
of ideas and solutions will help us understand
problem faced by different communities
around the world and and subsequent finding
of solution. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project NOOR

Project NOOR is the Outreach Program of our
college. The idea of the project was conceived
in the year 2017 , by a group of students and
faculty.
At the time of it's commencement the project
had only one wing - Team Kaafila. Volunteers
in team Kaafila taught the children who lived in
the nearby slum who were deprived of
schooling opportunity. Team Kaafila not only
focused on the academic education, but on all
round development of the children thus we
emphasized on E.C.A as well. At Noor we
believe that development of children is
impossible without the wholesome
development of the community. Thus We also
conduct various workshop and session (in
collaboration with NGOs) on topics such as
menstrual hygiene, child sexual abuse,
environmental protection etc.
In June 2018, the project entered into it's
second year and decided to collaborate with
Safai Karamachari Andolan an organisation
which works for the rehabilitation of Safai
Karmacharis , thus leading to the
establishment of it's second wing.
Under this wing, volunteers took up various
task for the upliftment of the community ,most
importantly fundraising. The fundraising was
done by marketing and selling the handmade
apparels made by the rehabilitated women of
community.

About the Millennium Fellow

Shivani Meher is a sophomore student in Indraprastha College for Women. She is studying Political Science with a minor in Sociology. She has a keen interest in the study of International Relations.

An incident in her life made her realise the importance and power of education, and this made her determined to make education quality accessible to children.
She believes that development without equity is not Sustainable, and hence promotes the idea of equitable development by engaging and working with marginalized communities.

She also emphasises that community engagement is a two way learning process, and whatever she learns from the community members help her not only to understand the community better but also acts as a catalyst for introspection.
