Millennium Fellowship Project: Street School
Street School ensures 5 days a week classes and 1 weekly event for the street children of Afghan Refugees, living in a slum area behind our campus.
The project Street School was the Proposed Project of Faizan Ahmad Nadeem, Campus Director of NUST Pakistan in millennium fellowship for class of 2019, who not only believed but acted upon the basic right of education to every child. A man who believed that education is the most powerful weapon to create a sustainable world.
After the start of that fellowship 9 Other Millennium Fellows of Our cohort became its part and with the help of 50 other Volunteers of our campus, we are strongly working in a slum area of Islamabad, Pakistan, teaching around seventy Afghan refugee boys and girls of different age groups. However, the vision is far greater than the one achieved. Mr. Faizan plans to promote and expand his project to all over Pakistan, one slum community at a time, _until every child
in the world is educated.
The street school aims to not only teach these kids the basic school subjects like mathematics and
English but first to instil in them the courage, self-confidence and proper etiquette to survive in a
modern society. It aims to improve their lifestyle by teaching them about their rights and potential.
The dedicated individuals who volunteer their time to these kids are the students from different fields
of sciences, engineering and business from National University of Science and Technology. The team
is divided into different portfolios, for better management and record keeping, including
● Human Resource
● Admin
● Security
● Finance
● External Relations
● Marketing
● Media and photography
The classes take place regularly five days a week and a fun, co curricular activity like painting competition and plantation drive on weekends. Funds are collected by the team on regular basis to afford books, notebooks and stationary.
The street school may be a small shelter made up of bricks
and mud, but it holds utmost compassion and dedication. It
was constructed with the cooperation of the locals who are
very enthusiastic and grateful about this opportunity for their children. For the coming years, Street School plans to design proper curriculum and organizational system to make our Project Sustainable.
To make our dreams a reality and our project Sustainable we did Collaboration with:
1. Chadar NUST Chapter
1. Each One Teach One Foundation Pakistan
2. Wall of Hope NUST Chapter
3. NUST International Model United Nations (NIMUN)
Moreover, to make our project street school Sustainable in real terms We invited a psychologist from UMT (University of Management & Technology) Lahore, to visit street school and then have a session with the fellows working in Street School and volunteers at NUST. The psychologist conducted a behavioural assessment of the street school children, including various cognitive tests. And then, she interacted with street school team in a session for a discussion on different strategies that can be applied for enhancing the learning process in street school.
Now we will try to convince others to Put some possible efforts to help us in this Project we have started to help our fellow humans and we have started now and did what we could do (to initiate it) but we can achieve what we have imagined if Everyone will do its part.
So, From MCN and UNAI we are expecting a constant support for that project to extent THEY can do because both MCN and UNAI are working on Sustainable Development Goals and you can help us to make Project Street School Sustainable.
