" I am humbled to be selected as a Millennium Fellow this year. This for me presents a unique opportunity to interact with people having different ideas but working towards achievement of the same goals. Being positioned for impact, I hope to learn, grow and achieve more than I could imagine. Walking out of this, I hope to have become better and made others better, met like minded change makers and created bonds that will push forward projects driven towards a better society and world. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Time Of the Month (T.O.M)

The Time Of the Month project was inspired by a gap in the world today affecting women and girls. As you would have guessed, Time Of the Month means the time in which a woman/girl experiences their menstrual cycle. This being an involuntary experience but a gift of nature has those in abject poverty suffer as they do not have access to sanitary towels becoming heavily reliant on aid which is not sustainable and those who are also able to afford are at times affected because of inaccessibility to sanitary towels in say public restrooms and even workspaces.
Having this in mind, the project aims at creating a way in which period poverty can be ended by contribution of women who need to access sanitary towels at their most desperate times. This, therefore, creates a cycle of need being met on both ends. During the months of August and September, further research will be carried out as well as sourcing of funds and pitching to women's groups to understand the feasibility of the idea. October and November will be then put into execution through prototyping first to understand responsiveness to the product and understand what changes and improvements could be made so as to advance.
