Brandeis University | Massachusetts, United States | Advancing SDG 14 & UNAI 9
" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because this is the first opportunity I have had to collaborate with my peers to promote sustainable projects and learn how to create projects of my own. As a Millennium Fellow I hope to share my passions of cleaning our oceans and conserving marine life. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Beach Debris Education and Clean-up
The goal of the Beach Debris Education and Clean-up Project is to promote the sustainable use of plastics and other waste items and to explain the importance of keeping the oceans free of waste.
Too often we see marine animals consume waste products that are confused for food items such as sea turtles which often consume plastic bags because they look similar to jellyfish. By educating those on the impact of garbage in the oceans, the Fellows also hope to encourage people to remove their own beach garbage as well as clean-up trash that was left by other beachgoers.
Throughout the duration of the Millennium Fellowship, they hope to organize at least 5 education and clean-up events throughout the Northern Atlantic region.
