Emerging economies like India, in their transitional march towards economic prosperity, are beset with twin challenges - first, to break the age-old barriers of caste, religious and social hierarchies, and second to plug the gaping inequality inherent in the open market capitalistic form of society, which though constantly producing a sprout of liberal thinking middle class, are also struggling to reduce the gap between the haves and have nots. This requires a multidimensional approach, which needs to target all three generations of the family and the society to bring about near, medium, and long-term changes to the structures that are inherent in the society.
