Kenyatta University | Nairobi, Kenya | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3
" It is an honour that I have been selected to be a Millennium Fellow this year.I am so excited to be part of the Millennium Fellowship because I will get to network with a diverse group of people from all over the world,be trained and as a result i will make my society a better place. As a student leader for tech communities, there is always a need for training and diversity.I am a firm believer that we carry within us all the mystical power we need to transform the world:with alittle guidance and mentorship we can make ourselves better hence make the world a better place altogether.I made it my mission to always bring the best out of people.I will quote Mahatma Gahndi when he said The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. As a Millennium Fellow, I will be trained and I can deploy the same skills am taught and also I will get to learn from other student leaders from all over the world which is something am really looking forward to.I have made a commitment to ensure that education is available for all and also there is gender equality. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: WOMEN IN STEM EMPOWERMENT
This project is an initiative to mentor students and society as a whole to advocate for gender equality and that technology is used to improve industry, innovation and infrastructure. In a recent research, men take up around 72% of technology roles whereas women take up only 28%.This is because women are discouraged and not given enough voice to engage in STEM careers.Diversity is critical in tech as it enables creation of better and safer products that take everyone into consideration.Diversity will promote creativity, better performance hence innovations and industry will grow as technology grows by the day.In the August-December period, Nancy plans to empower more women to take up STEM roles through mentorship and tech bootcamps for them to upskill. She will evaluate impact using surveys. The Fellow wants to impact 400 plus female students through the project.
