" While the social and environmental issues our world faces are incredibly complex and overwhelming, I am excited to be involved in a diverse community of young adults who all seek to make meaningful change in one way or another. I think this is a great opportunity to learn from and inspire each other on our missions, creating connections that might one day result in a better and more equitable world. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: NUImpact
NUImpact is an impact investing initiative with the mission to educate, inspire, and invest. The organization has two primary functions: offer educational programming, including an annual Summit, about the principles and concepts of sustainable investing and function as an active impact investing fund, investing in businesses around Boston that seek to cause social and environmental change.
They invest in five broad categories of impact: food & agriculture, healthcare, community & economic development, energy & environment, and education & financial services. They just closed their first investment this past year in a company called Eatwell, which seeks to promote healthy and accessible eating in food deserts around Boston with affordable, nutritious, and easy-to-make meal kits.
As far as goals for the rest of the year, they hope to fundraise for and be able to invest in a second company, which has already been identified. They also hope to hold a virtual keynote event, drawing in participants from around the country and inspiring them about the power of impact investing.
