" Living through this unprecedented time of a global pandemic, we are all suddenly put in a precarious situation where it is imperative upon each of us to start activating in a way we have not before. I am beyond excited to embed my passion for human rights and sustainability into this fellowship and begin this new journey of activism through creating accessible educational means to drive net positive global change. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Globalizing Sustainable Protein

In today's society, the food industry is the biggest contributor to greenhouse gases and through many research studies, it has been proven that a poor diet is the leading source to mortality. As part of these huge global problems, animal production is arguably the biggest culprit. In recognition of this, consumers are dramatically altering diet patterns, and food entrepreneurs are rushing to solve the problem with desirable solutions. With this in mind, Jennifer want to create an educational program for children to learn about sustainable protein and its intersection between climate change and human rights. She strongly believe that activism and societal change begins with education. The youth are our future and that they are the ones who will drive change whether it is through practicing sustainable living habits themselves or spreading awareness to their family members and peers about new lifestyle habits in an attempt to reverse negative externalities that arise from animal production.
Goals: Creating children's literature centered around sustainability topics and hosting school wide reading events along with fundraising events. Estimated Outreach: 1,200+ children

About the Millennium Fellow

Jennifer Tao is an exuberant and passionate student at New York University pursuing a B.S. in marketing and sustainable business. She is an avid supporter of embedding net impact through the integration of creative strategies to transform brands and drive societal change. Jennifer strongly believes that businesses can no longer sustain a hands off policy and have to accept responsibility through sustainability strategies that do not equate CSR to BHR because it is not what you do with the profit earned, but instead how the profit is made in the first place.
