" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow and to start my project because not only do I understand the importance of ending extreme poverty, I also resonate with the philosophy of Effective Giving which maximizes the impact that one person can make. Furthermore, I believe that many of my peers want to help the less fortunate but lack an accessible way to do so. I am eager to provide them with an opportunity to do so and see a measurable impact that results from their contribution. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: One for the World NYU

One for the World is a charitable organization aiming to end extreme poverty through "effective giving". It partners with GiveWell, a charity evaluator, and selects the non-profit organizations with the highest returns, hoping to create the maximum impact for those in need. The organization engages with students by educating them on extreme poverty and encouraging them to make a pledge, committing at least 1% of their future income for life to the recommended charities.

They will measure their impacts through the number of people reached as well as the number of pledges made. Over the semester, they plan on hosting a series of events including speaker event, panel
discussion, social event, etc. reaching a total of at least 250 people. They expect to have about 10-15 pledges in total over the four months. 1% of the average annual salary of a college graduate could provide 533 people with clean water for a whole year. Therefore, they will have improved the lives of 5330 people.
