" This fellowship allows the opportunity for likeminded individuals, shaped by their different experiences, to come together and develop solutions. It inspires cooperation and leadership from each participant in the effort to instill empathy in the world. I am so excited to use this platform to promote real change in our existing institutions to advance the wellbeing of all individuals. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Safely Pregnant

The project Safely Pregnant is advancing SDG 16 "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions" by addressing smoking and drinking throughout pregnancy. In the United States alone, it is reported that on average 7.2% of women smoke throughout their pregnancy while 10% of women drink throughout their pregnancy. These statistics are elevated in areas of poverty where women do not have the resources or support to help break their cycles of abuse. Through a social media campaign, Safely Pregnant addresses poverty and helps alleviate this problem by providing information and creating a community that is accessible to all. By raising awareness of the harm that comes from these actions, Safely Pregnant is helping raise a generation of strong children who will grow up and help advance society rather than be stunted by health issues they faced from birth. The program is helping preserve the health and safety of mothers and children and promoting safe pregnancies that will have lasting effects
