" I am a strong believer in being the change that you want to be. I am excited to be a part of the Millennium Fellowship because it gives me the opportunity to be that change. I get to work with a group of like-minded people to make a difference not only for my campus but for my community. One of my favorite quotes is "The people united will never be defeated." by Samira Ahmed. I am excited to prove this quote is true. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: How to Train your Brain

Mikayla plans to partner with Pace FIRE (fitting against ignorance and rape with education) and the Psychology club to provide free self defense classes for their students and interested Pace University students. These classes will be taught by trained volunteers to help build conflict prevention skills. Before every self-defense class there will be a brief presentation on the violence against children, and the effects it has on mental health in addition to ways we as a community can help stop violence. The university students can also help by donating money or nonperishable foods and items and writing short phrases or letters of encouragement to the children at JCCA Pleasantville Cottage School. The goal of this project is to provide awareness, build skills, and help children dealing with trauma.
