" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow becasue I will get to meet diverse people with different ways of thinking about issues and solutions. This presents endless opportunities of learning from great like minded people which will help me impact others even more. I believe that water is a necessity in life and every person deserves to have access to it. I won't stop until every child and every family has access to clean water to drink and other domestic uses. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Maji kijijini

Maji kijijini is a project meant to teach households in Siaya county how to harvest water for domestic use and farm use. This came up after seeing how lack of consistent supply of water and constantly changing seasons affected the livelihood of people and trickled down all the way to the children and how they went to school. With the COVID 19 pandemic, water has proved to be a key consideration. The project will start in a town called Sigomere where different households will be taught the techniques and equipped to carry them out. We are targeting at least 20 households by November, this is considering all necessary health measures are put in place.

About the Millennium Fellow

Vivian Nalo is a young woman passionate about bringing positive change to her immediate environment. Her focus is on empowering people to be independent rather than making them dependent on solutions that are being offered to them. She believes that change starts with small steps and does not despise the power of one person's effort towards making it happen. She believes that if one can have a heart for people, then they can notice the social and environmental solutions that they are able to bring to different communities.
