UNC Charlotte | North Carolina, United States | Advancing SDG 13 & UNAI 9
" I am thrilled to be a part of the Millennium Fellowship because it will finally give me the chance to make a difference with a group of passionate, bright individuals that share my vision for a more sustainable world. Tackling global climate change cannot be achieved by one person alone yet finding others with the ambition and vision to help instigate that change is not always easy. This program has handed me a golden opportunity that could not have come at a better time. Mankind no longer has time to waste when it comes to climate change. I will use this opportunity to make a difference in my community with the hope it will spread further. No matter where you come from, what you believe in, or how much money is in your pocket, the Earth is the one thing that connects all life together. I can't think of a simpler way to help all the people in the world and bring peace than by joining together to protect this beautiful planet we all call home. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: iAct
iAct is an interactive social media initiative to reach our university community and the greater Charlotte area with the potential for further outreach. Our focus would be on providing re-education, facts, and information about climate action through interaction with the online community and engagement at planned events in the real world. We aim to engage with the community and create interesting ways for all age groups to learn about the environment and ways to take care of it. To normalize sustainable actions, we will host community events on the university campus such as community pickups involving other on-campus groups or clubs, as well as daily events such as ‘Trashtalk Tuesday’ or ‘Salvage Saturdays’ to provide our social media audience with ways to be environmentally conscious. We will use social media analytics to determine progress towards our goal of 500-999 followers. We will also measure engagement for events from our online platforms with the hope that at least ⅓ of our online community is mobilized to spread the program.
