" I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I get to be around mentors and peers that are working towards similar goals in different ways, uplifting one another along the way. Accessibility for the disabled has almost always been an afterthought, when it should instead be a priority for any new building, public place, or transportation system being set up. As a person who has been using a wheelchair for many years now, and has witnessed the consequences of this first-hand, I hope to work towards changing this state of affairs and push for greater inclusion and empowerment of the disability community. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Mapping Accessibility
Mapping Accessibility is an independent project led by Millennium Fellow Bhavya Soni. This project aims to determine wheelchair accessibility of public spaces including malls, restaurants, hotels, monuments, and more, and thereby encourage social inclusivity through architecture and infrastructure. It seeks to do so by incorporating reviews about the same from users of digital maps on online platforms.
