Brac University | Dhaka, Bangladesh | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 6

" Millennium Fellowship is an excellent platform to boost up my creativity, communications and self reliance. This is a great platform to team up with a lot of minds and work on myself along with other people. With the SDG and UNAI principles, it will make my skills greater and create a huge impact on my regular life. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: COVID 19 RESPONSE TEAM, BRAC UNIVERSITY
BRACU Response Team was formed in the midst of the pandemic to assist individuals in crisis. The team is committed to assisting students, faculty members, University Authority as well as their family members during this calamity. During the early stages of the pandemic, the project "Covid 19 Response Team" was launched with the goal of assisting those in need.
During that time, more than 50 students volunteered to help BRAC University students and their families by providing information on plasma, available ICUs, ambulances, and oxygen cylinders for those in severe need. The BRACU response team has assisted over 1500 individuals with their medical needs, such as managing blood, plasma for patients, hospital seats, ambulances, and so forth. One of our fellow student at BRAC University, reached out to us during the Pandemic for assistance. His parents were infected with the Corona Virus and both of them required immediate attention. Therefore, the BRACU Response Team took it upon themselves to start a crowdfunding program for him from 13th April, 2021 and sourced around 55,075 BDT within 17th April, 2021. During that time only financial support didn’t help him. We tried to support him mentally as he needed that the most. An individual can reach their breaking point when they feel that all hope is lost and at that time Covid 19 Response Team came in his life like a beacon of hope. We are happy to say that both of his parents recovered and he is living a healthy & happy life along with his family.
Over 1500 individuals have benefitted from the team's effort so far. Furthermore, we tried to ensure the safety of animals, and we recently launched a project in which we would plant trees in order to revitalize our environment. In the long run, this will aid in the reduction of global warming. We follow UNAI Principle 9: Sustainability and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. The BRAC University Response Team has been striving to create a change in the society by providing social services for the community's welfare. BRACU Response Team's mission is to bring students together to develop a platform with sufficient knowledge and resources so that we can both provide and receive assistance. Our Vision is to expand and publicize this platform so that we can assist as many people as possible.
Our team's Success Indicators for these 4 months are as follows-
1. Managing ICU, Medical Equipment or Specialized Hospitals for patients.
2. Helping an average of 50-100 students on a monthly basis.
3. Helping patients pay their medical bills through team's crowdfunding events.
4. Successfully helping patients by sourcing plasma and blood donations.
5. Taking Hospital discharged patients to their homes with team's help.
6. Making students and their families join our awareness campaigns.
7. Increasing the cohesion among the departments of the team.
8. Giving mental support and counselling and improving mental situation of students.
During our Millennium Fellowship journey, we have learnt a huge number of things which we couldn’t have attained from books. One of the most valuable lesson which we obtained is that information is key and leaders should help others learn to tackle their problems instead of solving them on their own. Furthermore, we also learnt more about other SDGs and connected with brilliant minds across the globe which will help us to build a network of like-minded individuals as well as assist us in initiating projects in future.
