" “Being a Millennium Fellow means being part of a group of like-minded individuals in pursuit of greatness and social change. I am most excited about the opportunity to learn from my team-members and grow alongside them as we embark on this journey. I cannot wait to expand my knowledge and my skills to bring forth social impact that honor the mission of the SDGs.” "

Millennium Fellowship Project: From The Inside Out

From the Inside Out is driven by the motivation to combat food insecurity in the Modesto Maidique campus of Florida International University and the underserved individuals of South Florida. While there have been some revisions since the beginning of the fellowship, the ultimate goal remained the same. As such, the main objective has been to collect and distribute food and hygiene items to restock the FIU Student Food Pantry and offer free-of-cost meals to the homeless community of Downton and Overtown, Miami. It is important to note that this project has merged efforts with another cohort member's project with the intent of serving the same community. In essence, this merge provided my project a target community to which deliver these items to. Another important component of this project has been raising awareness and engaging FIU students through volunteering opportunities. So, students were offered volunteer hours for contributing to the collection of food and hygiene items, the preparation of care packages with these items, and their eventual distribution to the community, which will take place on December 2nd and 3rd of this year.
