UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT TANNER LOUIS MARVETS, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW AND CAMPUS DIRECTOR FOR THE CLASS OF 2021.
Georgia Institute of Technology | Georgia, United States | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3

" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow for the 2021 cohort because of the fellow students that I will be surrounded by and for the leadership development that will result. One's circle of influence is the most important factor in personal success, and surrounding myself with motivated students who are committed to sustainable development will drive me to be the best that I can be in my field. Taking on the role of campus director for my university will also give me invaluable experience that will forever impact me, and hopefully those around me as well. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Centennial Academy Tutoring Partnership
Centennial Academy is a public academic institution located directly south of my college campus. It serves grades K-8 with a total of 847 students. 100% of these students come from low-income families, and test scores show the students are falling behind the state average in several subjects. This project utilizes the bright and passionate students of Georgia Tech to help volunteer and tutor younger kids in the subjects that they need. Students can benefit from individualized instruction, but this is not always possible in a large classroom setting. Pairing students with college volunteers will be an effort to raise overall understanding and performance within the school. The relationships developed can also be critical to these children's future and life choices. During the period of the Millennium Fellowship (August-December 2021), it is projected that we will provide tutoring at least 2-4 times per month, aiming to help nearly 50-100 students with extra instruction.
