" Millennium Fellowship is a place that challenges you to improve and achieve your goals. Leadership and creativity are skills that I can improve by being a Millennium Fellow. I am more than ready to learn and apply them so my impact on society can be more efficient for people to fully understand the importance of gender equality. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: It's Linked
The project, It’s LinkEd, aims to empower youth by 1) Developing digital literacy, 2) Developing scientific literacy and critical thinking skills, and 3) Promoting a love of learning.
Today, one finds oneself bombarded with misinformation and fake news. With social media algorithms further perpetuating polarisation, and news companies fighting to make the most sensational headlines to receive the most views, impressionable young students are starting to hold questionable opinions without understanding the evidence behind them. Moreover, while technology has kept the world connected during this pandemic, this overreliance on digital activities leads to internet addictions, with adverse psychological, physiological and social consequences.
This project aims to spread awareness through creating an easy-to-understand Instagram page, fun and informative videos for easy learning, and more intensive self-learning online modules. We cover topics across the spectrum, such as logical fallacies, the digital divide, and technology addiction. Moreover, we are in the process of defining terms to collaborate with local charitable organisations to provide learning modules, practice worksheets/exercises, and an interactive forum for discussion for secondary school students in Hong Kong.
