" It is such a great honour to be a part of the Millennium Fellows community because this would be a golden opportunity for me to co-curate projects with other like-minded people in the community from all walks of life to bring positive social impact to the community. Being a Millennium Fellow allows me to truly be the change I would want to see in the world. I am truly thankful for this opportunity and I sincerely hope that the collective action of the Millennium Fellows community could make impact in the local, territorial and global community, one step at a time. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Catering Care

Catering Care (齊餉計劃) is an HKU-based student initiative that aims to build a resilient and sustainable food partnership between the catering industry, food-insecure populations, and public sponsorship. The project finds its roots in a fervent desire to support the vulnerable population in the immediate neighbourhood around HKU as well as campus restaurants, both of which have been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our project functions on a mutually supportive triad. Catering Care collects donations and fundings from “public sponsorship”. With these funds, we purchase meals from “participating caterers”, thus helping them to generate more revenue to tide through this difficult period. We then provide these meals for free to the “food-insecure population” through relevant NGOs. Since its piloting stage in September, we have donated 490 meals from our campus restaurants Bijas and UDeli to over 100 beneficiaries of St. Barnabas Society and Home. We are now expanding to various new initiatives, including but not limited to food coupons, community kitchen meal preparation and recipe design and community support.
