" Connecting with people sharing the same urge as me, a need for an equitable world, will widen my perspective and boost my motivation for taking action. Perspective that we see the world through can always be developed and letting ourselves to develop is easier and long-lasting with people supporting you and your goals. I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow! "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Omerdeyim: Student Portal
Omerdeyim: Student Portal is a website to gather a community for sharing lecture notes, tutoring, socializing and studying together. As the pandemic caused students to have weaker connections with their academic life, limited their social relations and diminished their motivation we detected the need for an online social center. Through omerdeyim.com, anyone who desires to learn can collaborate on enhancing the standards of their learning process. The project aimed to develop the educational standards during the pandemics, as online education is both a challenge and an opportunity for the learning environment. By creating a website that is designed to share notes, educational links, tutor/teacher advice, course feedback etc. and meet to study together and support each other online mentally and motivationally. By the help of Millennium Fellowship, we are planning to extend the scale of the platform and aim to reach more people motivated to study whether they are university students or someone that aims to grow his/her knowledge on the available content hopefully within August-December 2021.
About the Millennium Fellow
Iris Cim Yalcin is an Engineering and Economics student in Koc University, Istanbul. She has been passionate about making the world a better place to live, since the beginning of her high school years. Even when she was very young, her interest in the superheroes saving the world was prominent. Though, not superheroes but as humans, we need to take responsibility for others in need and advocate the equality in the world as much as we can do. Being brought up with such motives, she had been a part of socially responsible activites, the most recent one being a Milennium Fellow. As a dynamic, empathetic person and willing to make connections to contribute to her vision, she seeks a career path that she can fulfill her social mission and set her analytic background forth. Therefore, she believes that playing a part in the contribution of the UN's Sustainable Goals can be a headstart for her career path and an intense experience for her personal development.
