As part of the project “Stop Wasting- Start Giving!”, Ben Aichele, Catinke Bertz, Friederike Schwenkner, Hannah Reemtsma, Marcel Rastel, Chiara Woytaszek and Hannah Koch are advocating for SDG 12 “responsible consumption and production”.

With our project, we are actively campaigning against food waste in Germany and are looking into an anti-waste law based on the French model and a possible German counterpart. Our project consists of three main phases of work. The first phase focused on knowledge aggregation regarding the political status quo, the perteiprogrammes of the six established German parties and the resulting development potential of a possible anti-austerity law. Thsi phase has been completed. Phase two consists of sharing our knowledge with other people. For this purpose, we have organised a partner school in which we have already conducted a workshop with students of year 8 and will continue to conduct workshops even after the Fellowship has ended. In the third and final phase of our project work, we are working on a petition for a possible anti-litter law in Germany. Together with a pro bono advocate from one of our interlocutors, we will draft such a petition and thus call on our federal government to make food policy more sustainable. The work on the petition will take a lot of time and will extend long beyond the official period of the Millennium Fellowship.
