Millennium Fellowship Project: Alive Varsity Uganda

Alive Varsity Uganda (AV Uganda) was started as a student led project to reduce suicide among university students in Uganda. A team of 6 Millennium fellows from Mbarara University of Science and Technology worked together to find solutions to address the burden of being suicidal and associated mental health disorders among students. This has been through engaging key stakeholders involved in offering mental health care services in Uganda. The project target population was engaged through a social media platform (twitter) and scheduled webinars on zoom. Our target was to create awareness on modifiable factors for suicide and to build capacity for students to speak up when stressed or when they identify the students at risk especially those who are overwhelmed by depressive thoughts.
