ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2021

United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. In 2021, over 25,000 young leaders on 2,000+ campuses across 153 nations applied to join the Class of 2021. 136 campuses worldwide (just 6%) were selected to host the 2,000+ Millennium Fellows. The Class of 2021 is bold, innovative, and inclusive.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Stop Plastic Pollution

The stop plastic pollution project is a project aimed at increasing awareness of plastic pollution and the dangers it poses to the environment mostly among residents of urban areas. This project is also intended to formulate practical ways to curb plastic use in urban communities , but firstly Mbarara University of science and technology;by providing suitable accessible alternatives to single use plastic and promote plastic reuse and recycling.
This project aims at finding practical and sustainable ways to encourage and facilitate residents of urban areas to be responsible with plastic waste and reduce use of single use plastic. This project will be student managed ; we intend to create and innovate some of the substitutes to plastic especially packaging materials to make them more accessible to people and also fund the project.
This project is advancing mainly SDG11, and is serving Mbarara University of science and technology with the primary audience being the community around Mbarara and the specific target audience being the students and lecturers of Mbarara University of science and technology.

About the Millennium Fellow

Nalugya Sylivia Juliet is hard working , passionate ,driven and God-fearing pharmacy student at Mbarara university of science and technology.
She was born in Kampala,Uganda and lives there to date.
As a child Sylivia was always keen on
fauna and flora in her environment. She would always find ways of saving any tree that was going to be cut to put up new infrastructure and it broke her heart when she failed.
Sylivia's passion for nature was very evident throughout out her primary school and high school years where she participated in numerous events geered towards nature preservation. Presently, at the University, Sylivia still holds nature at heart and educates her fellow students on how to live sustainably and protect the environment.
Sylivia desires to learn how to effectively influence other members of her community to take environment protection as a personal responsibility and thus contribute
to implementation of the UN sustainable development goals.
