" The biggest problem facing the modern world is climate change. Action on this issue has been held off for far too long and we have passed the time of casual discussion. Being a Millennium Fellow will aide me in upholding UNAI principles and achieving Sustainable Development Goals through collaboration and teamwork which will provide me with viewpoints and action plans I previously had not considered. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Reducing Northeastern University’s Carbon Footprint by 2030
The Zero Waste Commitment plans to hold local universities and businesses accountable for their carbon footprint. I will be providing a reasonable plan of action for how the entity can reduce their carbon footprint significantly or completely neutralize it. My hope is that these plans will be followed and in full effect by 2028, two years before the deadline for the Paris Climate Accord. The science is all out there, and scientists can talk forever to no avail, but it's time for serious change and it's time to hold these large entities with the power to make a difference accountable.
About the Millennium Fellow
Ariana Aghili is a second-year honors student studying at Northeastern University with an interdisciplinary major in Political Science and International Affairs and a minor in Mathematics. She is from Long Island, New York and hopes to attend law school and one day become a Foreign Service Officer. On campus she in highly involved as an active member of four student organizations. She is excited about the Millennium Fellowship because of her desire to make a positive impact on her community.
