" Service is in to me one of the most honorable qualities. I am excited to use my creativity, my knowledge and my art to reach out to those in need and bring my small participation into making the world a more pleasant place for all. With the help of my classmates and this opportunity given by the Millennium Fellowship I believe we can make a difference and get a step closer to that goal. It is an honor to be a Fellow and I am looking forward to starting our project! "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Student Initiative Against Misinformation (SIAM)
SIAM focused on combating misinformation around campus. By creating informative posters addressing misinformation and placing them in strategic places around campus, we wanted to make sure that everyone who saw the poster was aware of the increasing need to get correct information from fact-checked and trusted sources. Also, we focused on social media as a way of reaching more audience. We shared our page with people from our countries, which was useful because many people interacted with our posts.
About the Millennium Fellow
Born in Haiti during times of crisis, Ruudy Rijkaard Laguerre witnessed what it was like to lack opportunities and access to services and basic human rights. Seeing the difficulties of his homeland fueled in the young man a desire to serve and reach out to his peers through social activities in his high school, ecology and art. Passionate about science, he is eager to use the power of knowledge to assist those in need and fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a Biochemist. He is currently studying chemistry at the university of the Ozarks where he takes small steps every day in order to make his small community a better . “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” Howard Zinn
