" Being part of the Millennium Fellowship is really exciting for me because I get to manifest my potential as a social worker and also be able to interact with a large part of the community. It would be a wonderful opportunity for me to extend my creative skills and carry out all my responsibilities for the betterment of society. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project She/Her

My project is in reference with SDG 3 which is ‘Good Health and Well Being’ particular to menstrual hygiene. I personally believe that a woman is powerful when she is strong from within and good hygienic practices plays an important role. Healthy practices makes us more confident and one way to do this is by starting to teach adolescent girls about good menstrual practices, how to take good care of the body during this time and why is it important. This helps them to understand the cause better and not succumb to the superstitions.
My goal was to go around to schools and interact with teenage girls and tell them about menstruation, pros and cons of the various products available in the market like sanitary napkins, tampons and menstrual cups. I talked about the conditions associated with menstruation like PCOS and toxic shock syndrome.
Primarily, I focused on research on the potential drugs available in the market for the treatment of PCOS. I constructed the two main pathways associated with PCOS that is the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Ovarian axis pathway and the ovarian steroidogenesis 2 cell model using CellDesigner software 4.4.2. Molecular docking studies of two potentials drugs namely Berberine and Metformin onto PI3K was done using Auto Doc Vina 4.0, PyRx and Ligplot and visualized on PyMol to determine the best acting drug. I also studied the side effects of these drugs.
