" The Millennium Fellowship allows me to have my mind set on working together with other like-minded individuals to try and work towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations' Academic Impact Principles. With this fellowship, I have the chance to learn from others, the community around me, and more about myself as well. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: North Philadelphia Sustainability Initiative

The goal of North Philadelphia Sustainability Initiative is to clean up the North Philadelphia community and organize educational events to reduce the amount of litter in the area and promote responsible consumption. We are hoping to significantly reduce the amount of trash in our community through biweekly community clean-ups. Our project will have three components: 1) Biweekly community clean-ups, 2) Three educational events about responsible consumption, and 3) A campaign to encourage Temple University students to recycle and to establish comprehensive recycling policies at Temple University. For two of our educational events we plan to have guest speakers discuss sustainability, and the third event will be a community roundtable with those living in the North Philadelphia area. This roundtable will allow us to understand the needs of our surrounding community. The final component of our project is to encourage recycling on Temple University’s campus. We will provide recycling bins for students and we will meet with an administrator and Temple’s Office of Sustainability to encourage more comprehensive recycling policies on Temple’s campus. By organizing educational events and a recycling campaign in addition to community clean-ups, we hope to considerably reduce the amount of litter in the North Philadelphia area.
