I am super excited to increase my anticipatory competence by envisioning new ways of learning and reaching out to people. And I really love the fact I would be making new friends. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Uplift the Girl Child
Uplift the Girl Child is an independent project led by millennium fellow Ehi Ekoja addressing issues of gender inequalities through Human right education. The Project aims to educate the girl Child (dren) of the University of Jos (both Students and Faculty) on Basic human right and her contribution to the Society, eventually the greater Plateau community. To reflect societal issues through open discussions that simultaneously fosters deeper appreciation for the Girl Child. During the millennium fellowship period (August-November 2021) Project Uplift the Girl Child would host a minimum of 2 Physical events. We are aiming to reach about 200 people in each event . I would also love to collaborate with fellows who have the same SDG goals so together we reach a wider community.
About the Millennium Fellow
Ehi Mary Ekoja is a 29year old medical student of the university of Jos Nigeria. A goal driven, brightand hardworking student. Passionate about Global health. She was Born in Benue State (Makurdi). And resides in Abuja, currently studying in Jos Nigeria. A World citizen. For as long as she an remember, she has been passionate about advocacy for gender equality, children and women's right. This drive came from her experience as a child in her community where she saw women with ability and potentials but we're denied all opportunities because of their gender and this hurt her deeply. She began organizing programs and volunteering in programs that educate children,the girl child and women on Menstrual hygiene,oral and personal hygiene, proper health seeking behaviors, environmental health and benefits of girl child education. She hopes to continue as all these inspired her to be in decision making bodies where she would contribute her quarter to children, women and global health. She became the first Female President of Medical students in her school after about 46 years. This was born out of hardwork and determination. She aspires to be in a professional field where she can grow and nuture these advocacies further and provide her own contribution in the development of the United Nations Sustainable Goals.
