" I am thrilled to be a Millennium Fellow because I'll learn a whole lot and as well develop my self in the process.
This is also an opportunity to test my intelligence and creativity as well as sharpen the skills acquired in my self development journey.
Contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is the sole reason I applied for the Millennium Fellowship and as I've been given the opportunity, I'll try as much as possible to ensure that these are achieved. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Female Pro
The name of our project is “FEMALE PRO", an initiative made up of sexual health advocates working as a team to empower under privileged women and girls with comprehensive sexual education. Lack of adequate sexual health education especially in poor communities was a major problem which the FEMALE PRO team identified in our local community. Therefore, our initiative aims at increasing awareness on the dangers of teenage pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) , toilet infections, Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), family planning and female Genital Mutilation. We also exposed women and girls in a practical session to the WHO recommended hand washing steps to diminish the spread of infections. The goal is to positively impact over 200 women and girls in our local community and raise sexual reproductive health advocates that will become a chain of influence. This initiative does not just empower women and girls with knowledge but seeks to provide quality re-usable pads alongside useful knowledge on the proper use of these reusable pads which can last up to 2 years.
About the Millennium Fellow
Nsikak-Abasi Anietie Jacob is a success driven young lady who currently resides in Nigeria and schools at the University of Uyo Town Campus. She has always worked with the knowledge that in order to achieve what one desires, one needs to step out of her comfort zone and she has done this at every step of her life.
She has always seen herself changing lives and working for the betterment of the community she lives in and now, with the Millennium Fellowship, she has been given the opportunity to improve the world at large.
She has been involved in public health campaigns, online health webinars as well as health seminars and has acquired the skills, both hard and soft skills necessary for the achievement of the goals she has set aside for herself.
The Sustainable Development Goals though different are related with each other as so as she works towards achieving one goal, other goals would be simultaneously achieved, thereby making the world a better place, as this is her very first goal.
From Millennium Fellowship, she still hopes to learn from like minds and join hands with them in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
