" I have always been passionate about International Development and am inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Taking the information I learn one step further through creative problem solving and collaboration will give me the skills to not only contribute to fulfilling these goals but also connect with others that have the same passion towards sustainability. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: West Philadelphia Education Collective

The West Philadelphia Education Collective is a club started on campus at the University of Pennsylvania that aims to raise awareness for Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOTS) and collect school supplies and donations for public schools in the West Philadelphia area. Thus far, we have raised $50 for school supply donations and chartered our club with the university. We have also distributed information about PILOTS and advocated for the university to pay PILOTS on campus.

About the Millennium Fellow

Nisha Nalawade is studying International Relations & Environmental Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She was born in the United States and as a young child moved to Amsterdam and New Delhi before returning to the U.S. She truly appreciates learning different perspectives and finding intersectionalities between cultural ideas and issues facing different regions of the world. She is passionate about global issues around sustainability, and has especially been interested in the sustainable use of water. She’s taken her passion towards water usage towards a conservation project she brought to her hometown during high school. She also later became involved with organizations that work towards fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals in college. Nisha is excited to continue in working towards these goals through the Millennium Fellowship.
