UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT KAILANI BRIANNA HOOD, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2021.
University of South Florida | Florida, United States | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 2

" As a student with budding ideas just waiting to be put to fruition, the Millennium Fellowship provides me with the resources and training necessitated to bring lasting change to my community. This is of immense merit in a world where misinformation and stigmas concerning drug prevention efforts have hindered victims of addiction from receiving treatment. In addition to fulfilling the principles of both the United Nations Academic Impact and the Sustainable Development Goals, my project with the Fellowship will maximize my ability to make a positive difference in the lives of those who suffer from substance misuse. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Foundation of USF Drug Prevention Coalition
As someone who has been involved in drug prevention for several years, I was surprised to find that the University of South Florida does not appear to have a coalition on campus. In order to spread awareness to the dangers of substance misuse among the student body and staff alike, I wish to found a coalition by reaching out to connections throughout Hillsborough County, allocating funds towards the coalition, and increasing student interest in the subject matter. For the sake of establishing such an organization, advertising will occur through social media and USF student connection platforms, fundraising representatives will set a target goal of $1,000 by the end of the organization's first year of operation, and recruitment efforts will introduce at least two trained advisors and twenty student members to the coalition throughout that same year.
About the Millennium Fellow
Kailani Brianna Hood is a driven pre-med student attending the University of South Florida. Having been passionate about public health from a young age, she began to pursue drug prevention advocacy as early as high school. Over the course of the past four years, Kailani has served in numerous preventative coalitions and has gone so far as to host youth educational conferences in addition to advocating for policy reforms with legislators at the national level. It is through her experience that Kailani strives to promote substance misuse prevention throughout her community by founding an advocacy coalition at her university.
