UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT MADELINE MORALES, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW AND CAMPUS DIRECTOR FOR THE CLASS OF 2021.
University of Texas at San Antonio | Texas, United States | Advancing SDG 13 & UNAI 9
" I hope to represent my San Antonio community especially as a Hispanic woman. Minority communities, especially those most impacted by climate change, are often underrepresented in climate talks. Through my work I try to increase minority visibility and pursue opportunities to advance climate justice. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Plant The Future
The main goal of this project is to plant 1000 native Texas 1000 and inspire others to take climate action. We will be raising awareness about the problem of deforestation and climate change through educational posts on our social media. As well as promoting trees as a viable solution for the sequestration of excess carbon dioxide in our atmosphere which contributes to climate change. A Growing Investment will encourage participation in tree-planting events, and eventually, develop a framework that will allow volunteers to host their own planting events. Through collaboration with local companies like Home Depot and Lowe's and fundraising events, we will purchase or acquire the trees and document their use. This will be a transparent process so donors will be able to see the trees purchased and planted on our website.
