" My passion for women's health and rights, and the need to see children have quality education pushed me into social impact. The Millennium Fellowship offers an awesome avenue for me to learn everything I need to know about making meaningful social impact. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Skill For All
Skill For All is an independent project led by Janet Apochi, a Millenium Fellow of the 2022 class. In today's world, particularly in developing countries, the need to learn a skill has become necessary. Skill For All seeks to introduce vocational skills to the most senior students in High School (Secondary school), who would be out of school soon, and looking to enter into University. The project aims to introduce Vocational skills like IT/Tech skills and bag and shoe making to the students, so they can engage in them while they await their entry into the University. Some of these students may make such skills their part-time or full-time source of income, as they please. Many students do not know the opportunities available to them. While it is good to aim for white-collar jobs, it's also important to show them how they could create jobs for themselves, so they don't become a burden to their families and society at large.
During the Millennium Fellowship period, the project Skill For All will host a one-day program at a Secondary school in the community. It'll be a mix of the shoe and bag-making workshop, IT/Tech skills talk, and general career talk. We aim to reach about 100 students during this event.
