Millennium Fellowship Project: The Hundreds Hearts Initiative
Ischemic heart disease accounts for the leading cause of death worldwide affecting about 18.2 million adults yearly. It affects 20 million individuals in Africa and the mortality rate in Sub-Saharan Africa is 27% in men and 25% in women (that is among a hundred people that have the disease 27 and 25 of them respectively won’t make it alive!!!). In Nigeria 1 in 3 adults have a form of cardiovascular heart disease
A Hundred Hearts Initiative is geared towards preventing and managing cardiovascular diseases in a hundred people/patients. The target population being the pediatric age group(children), pregnant women and the elderly. The project entails sensitization on cardiovascular diseases through health education, health rallies and managing/prevention through blood pressure checks, diet modification and prevention of other risk factors
About the Millennium Fellow
Abiye-Whyte Rich-Hope is a final year medical student of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He was born in FCT-Abuja, Nigeria and lived most of his life there. In the course of his medical education he has gotten some years of experience on the diagnosis of diseases,management of patients and is driven by how the individual lives the remaining parts of their lives with or without diseases and so tries to tackles key issues in health. He has great leadership qualities and has occupied key positions, which through the help of Fellow team members achieved memorable results
