" Today, one of the best investments our society can make is to empower girls through education. By doing this, we empower them to fly, soar, and realize their aspirations. They have a ton of untapped potential, and doing so the rewards are tremendous. An educated woman is an empowered woman. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Soma Initiative Project

The Soma Initiative project envisions a society where every child can access education. The Soma Initiative focuses on less privileged populations' financial barriers to education. The principal objective is to provide struggling students with the necessities they need to fulfill their educational aspirations. We identified that in our home countries, many families struggle to keep up with supporting their children in school. Therefore, we put our hands together to help those in need.

About the Millennium Fellow

Fridah Nyangaya Arasa is a self-driven, hard working and ambitious student at the African Leadership University in Rwanda. She was born and raised in Nyansiongo, Kijauri village and during her early years she schooled at a local school and then transferred to a different boarding school far away from home.
It wasn't until she graduated from high school that she became aware of the inequities in her community, where girls were not as likely to pursue an education as their male counterparts due to issues like a lack of role models and motivation, as well as financial limitations. After graduating from high school, she committed herself to mentoring young students, educating them about the importance of attending school, and organizing fundraising events among her friends to support the children who reside in children's homes. The Need For All Initiative was established as a result to address these problems as well as others like low self-esteem, poverty, substance abuse, and peer pressure. Fridah hopes to create a society where all girls have access to education and grow to reach their full potential through these activities.
