" As we know the Millennium Fellowship focuses on global issues like hunger, climate change etc. it will help in enhancing social skills collectively and develop an even stronger interest in global health and other aspects. This would be a great oppurtunity for me to dig deeper and help increase my competency towards various SDGs. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Team Sustenance
Project Sustenance is an initiative taken by a group of 14 UN Millennium Fellows of 2022 from Amity University Mumbai. The goal is to make sure that everyone, everywhere, has access to enough good quality food to live a healthy life. In this project, the team are planning to conduct awareness programs, setting up some seminars in school about food waste management, and planning a one day meal at Govt. school, educating the young mass to avoid food waste, eat healthy food, save water.
The drive at Girija Welfare Association began with a small introductory speech from the fellow members with the orphanage members and children as audience. The fellow members talked about the United Nations, the Millennium Fellowship Program, and the SDG Zero-Hunger. The entire speech was conducted in three languages: English, Hindi, and the local language Marathi. Then an ice breaker session was held between the members and the children where we tried to explore the different talents and capabilities of these children. After the session, food provided by Project Sustenance members was distributed and served to the kids by the fellow members. This food was organised by Girija Foundation from the charitable donation made from Project Sustenance’ side through an online fundraising event held on 27th October. After the lunch was over in the orphanage, we visited the old age section of the Girija Welfare Association and explained to them our cause. We also served them food. Through our ice breaker session, we discovered that one of the kids’ named Akash had his birthday on the same day as the visit. We planned to celebrate his birthday and organised an impromptu birthday party. We ended the day with commemorative photos with the kids and members.
