Millennium Fellowship Project: Edu-Kistaps

Edu-kistaps is a project led by Millennium Fellow, Tinashe Kanukai. Our goal is to increase our penetration into the most remote rural schools to bridge the gap between rural and urban education. Edu-kistaps identifies promising bright rural students and assist them to apply for scholarship for higher education and finding grants for higher education. With the help of volunteers, we match each student to a mentor who will help them achieve their academic goals towards higher education. Our strategy and goal are to reach the most remote rural areas we have not been able to reach before and present them opportunities for higher education. We train the students we enrol into our program the importance of giving back to their community and help to increase the standards of living in rural communities. Within a period of one year our target is to work with students from fifteen rural schools we have never worked with before.

Apart from scholarship Edu-kistaps assist students in building their personal profile through career guidance and counselling. We give students from different schools the opportunity to network and work together to achieve their academic goals.

Our programs will help students find their purpose and learn to integrate it with their passions. The interactions with mentors will strengthen the student's morale , thinking capabilities and challenge them to have a bigger picture perspective of their communities.Students will be exposed to diverse professionals who will give them a taste of how it is to go in a particular career direction. This will help students make informed decisions and eschew decisions made due to pressure from families, communities and peers. We want students to find meaning in what they want to venture into and attain authentic success.
