" "If I had to summarise my passion for social change in a few words they would simply be create, critique, connect, and collaborate. These simple words also desrcribe the myriad of ideas and initiatives brought together under the ambit of the Millennium Fellowship. I am excited to develop my project under the guidance of the experienced mentors and the creative peers I will meet by way of this incredible platform I have been provided. I hope to make tangible strides towards the realisation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals during the Fellowship." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Pukaar

Pukaar is a social impact initiative located in the national capital region of India which aims at understanding urban poverty through ethnography. The central idea is to platform the “pukaar” or the call of those who have been systematically oppressed and invisibilized and its’ focus aligns with SDG #1; No Poverty. Despite urban poverty being a fact of life that surrounds all those who live in the region, conversations about it often occur in very abstract terms instead of lived experiences that are fairly adjacent. Thus, our project focuses on bridging this disjuncture and conducting detailed interviews with those experiencing the realities of urban poverty.
Pukaar thus hopes to present a more intricate outlook on how the urban poor live and interact with the state. One of the main goals of this project is to produce publicly accessible information that captures the intersection between various forms of social injustice in India. The long-term aspiration for a project such as ours would be to make individual citizens as well as relevant authorities better equipped to address poverty.
