" "I am very excited to be part of the 2022 Millennium Fellows Cohort. I really value the opportunity to make an enduring, positive impact on my community by advancing SDG 4 (quality education) and UNAI 5 (access to higher education). I aspire to translate the skills I gain as a Millennium Fellow to my future leadership and advocacy endeavors." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Collegiate Foundations

I co-founded Collegiate Foundations in May 2020 to remove barriers that prevent first-generation, low-income students from achieving their educational goals. Through this organization, we undertake two programs aimed at providing students with the tools they need to succeed in college. One of our programs is focused on raising funds to donate computers to high school students who have been admitted to college but lack the financial resources to purchase computers. The second program provides one on one mentoring to assist students through 9th to 12th grades with their coursework, standardized exam preparation, college applications, financial aid and scholarship applications. Our team of dedicated mentors also equips students with essential skills, like effective organization and communication. We seek to promote equity in higher education by building the foundation that first-generation students need to succeed in college. At present our organization serves high school students in the Houston area. We plan to expand the reach of our project by partnering with community organizations in Waco, Texas and expanding our services to low-income students in Waco.
