" "There is no greater privelege than having the opportunity to serve one's community. Creating sustainable social impact is a difficult, rewarding, yet incredibly necessary endeavor. I am honored to join a Fellowship that thrives on interdisciplinary innovation, where I have the opportunity to not only amplify my own work in educational equity, but also bolster the amazing work of other Fellows. It is an honor to be Millennium Fellow, and I cannot wait to see what this group accomplishes!" "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Collegiate Foundations

Many first generation low-income students who enter college are not able to take advantage of the opportunities offered through higher education due to a deficit of both technological resources and essential skills. I co-founded Collegiate Foundations to alleviate this disparity through two programs. One of our programs is focused on raising funds to donate computers to high school students who have been admitted to college but lack the financial resources to purchase computers. Through the second program we provide one on one mentoring to assist students through 9th to 12th grades with their coursework, SAT/ACT exams, college applications, financial aid and scholarship applications. Our team of mentors also equips students with essential skills like effective organization and communication. Thus, Collegiate Foundations seeks to empower first-generation students with the advice and resources they need to thrive in their educational pursuits. At present our organization serves students in the Houston area. We plan to expand the reach of our project by partnering with community organizations in Waco, Texas and serving a greater number of students.
