" To challenge my leadership and creativity skills would be an amazing experience and allow me to adapt more easily and perform at my best ability in new settings such as a new class or a new patient's room. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Sight for Students
Every child deserves the right to see properly, but the added expense of prescription glasses can be strenuous on low-income families already struggling between rent payments, food and gas prices, and medical bills, all of which were increased by the pandemic. A lack of corrective glasses has been directly proven to cause deficits in student performance, and the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) at Berkeley thus aims to provide elementary school children experiencing financial hardship with donated glasses to ensure reduced vision does not hold them back from achieving their full academic potential. We further hope to increase awareness of community medical and general resources available to those who may be unemployed or undocumented and in need of assistance by distributing flyers to families. We thus conducted a fundraiser to ensure the youngest members of our communities are receiving the annual physicals, dental cleanings, and corrective glasses they need to become thriving leaders someday.
