" "The most rewarding parts of my days are those I am able to spend assisting others in meeting their health-related needs. As a Millennium Fellow, I would be able to greatly expand the reach of my group's community outreach and tangibly improve the community's wellbeing. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sight for Students

Every child deserves the right to see properly, but the added expense of prescription glasses can be strenuous on low-income families already struggling between rent payments, food and gas prices, and medical bills, all of which were increased by the pandemic. A lack of corrective glasses has been directly proven to cause deficits in student performance, and my project thus aims to provide elementary school children experiencing financial hardship with donated eyeglasses to ensure reduced vision does not hold them back from achieving their full academic potential. I further hope to increase awareness of community medical and general resources available to those who may be unemployed or undocumented and in need of assistance by distributing flyers to families. Through this Fellowship, I hope to ensure the youngest members of my community are receiving the annual physicals, dental cleanings, and corrective glasses they need to succeed today and become thriving leaders someday.
