" I see the potential for growth in the world and in my community, and I want to create projects that alleviate equity issues. As I pursue awareness and social change efforts with the Millennium Fellowship, I plan to gain insight from and be inspired by my peers from around the world who can bring in more perspectives on these issues and their take on an improved world. As a Fellow, I hope to further shape myself as a changemaker and leader and pursue my projects with more confidence that I am making a substantial change in the world. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: G.I.F.T.E.D. Pre-Med

GIFTED Pre-Med is a project aiming to assist low-income and minority-identifying students with the financial hurdles of applying to medical school. We aim to diversify the healthcare field to more efficiently meet patients' needs by aiding those that may be deterred from applying simply due to circumstances larger than themselves. We work to meet our goal by fundraising to meet waive students' medical school application fees, donating MCAT study materials, and spreading awareness of social disparities and gender & racial equity through speaker events.

About the Millennium Fellow

Serena Wang is a compassionate and driven pre-med student at the University of California, Berkeley studying Public Health and Data Science. She is passionate about addressing the social determinants of health and advocating to diversify healthcare through gender and racial equity. Through frequently working with underserved populations in her community and local hospitals, she became aware of overlooked health disparities among minority-identifying individuals and has since worked to alleviate and raise awareness of the societal origins of these disparities. She believes that through understanding each other just that bit more, we can overcome stereotypes and work towards a world of equity.
