" Being able to work alongside my peers on a project that will positively impact the lives of those around me is something I am grateful to have the opportunity to experience. I am looking forward to creating change while also building connections with an inspiring group of students. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sight for Students

Every child deserves the right to see properly, but the added expense of prescription glasses can be strenuous on low-income families already struggling between rent payments, food and gas prices, and medical bills, all of which were increased by the pandemic. A lack of corrective glasses has been directly proven to cause deficits in student performance, and the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) at Berkeley thus aims to provide elementary school children experiencing financial hardship with donated glasses to ensure reduced vision does not hold them back from achieving their full academic potential. We further hope to increase awareness of community medical and general resources available to those who may be unemployed or undocumented and in need of assistance by distributing flyers to families. We thus conducted a fundraiser to ensure the youngest members of our communities are receiving the annual physicals, dental cleanings, and corrective glasses they need to become thriving leaders someday.
