Millennium Fellowship Project: Writeadelic
Having a community of writers sounds at once elusive and amazing. Writing is often considered an individual endeavor whether as a passionate hobby or intensive personal project. Yet oftentimes, we also yearn to share this endeavor like any other. Throughout our time at Between the Lines: Peace And The Writing Experience 2022, our experiences engaging with an international cohort of peers fostered growth and productive exchange of ideas. But dedicated spaces for emerging creatives are always in need. Members of our team noted that around them, there aren't many platforms for youth to share their writing and engage with the creative works of others.
Furthermore, our experience with “literature” is mostly through the classroom, which has an exclusive focus on classics or works of the literary canon. Nonetheless, significant genres like young adult fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction, etc can often be regarded as an “other.” Through the creation of a collaborative and global platform, we want to affirm all literature. Writeadelic combines “write” and “didactic.” Our chosen name emphasizes our belief in the ability of words to guide and inspire us; stories teach and open our minds. Not only do we hope to create a dedicated platform to celebrate emerging creatives, foster meaningful cross-cultural dialogue, we also hope to expand our collective understanding of literature’s possibilities.
