Millennium Fellowship Project: E-cycle from Home

This project aims to reduce the indiscriminate throwing, dumping and random open incineration of E-waste. The first step of this is the collection of electrical and electronic wastes from domestic houses. We will list the house in our selected area. Each house will receive a bag made of jute (as Jute is biodegradable) from us to put all the electronic wastes. And, if it is large, we will collect by ourselves to hand them out to the recycler companies. The items that we will collect will be of these categories: major home appliances, small home appliances, computer and telecommunication appliances, lighting devices, electrical and electronic tools and electronic toys, leisure items, etc. We will collect waste every one month from each house. After collection, we will keep the recyclable parts and dump the scrap parts or the items that are not recyclable into specific legal dumping zones as no other technology is available in my country. As for the recyclable parts, we will reach out to local waste recycle companies and hand them over the waste. In Bangladesh, the open incineration of wastes is way too common and it really affects people and the environment, especially the air. By being the medium between the sources of these wastes and recycling companies, we will be able to reduce the soil, water, and air pollution caused by E-waste as well as impacts on human health. And, eventually, it will help in building a sustainable community and city and reduce public health concerns to meet SDG 11 and SDG 3 respectively.
